Do-It-Yourself projects are always a fun way to spend time being crafty and show off the finished product. With Halloween right around the corner, why not do a little DIY? Head to a dog-friendly Halloween party (or this fun Doggone Halloween Parade) and impress your friends with your pup’s cutest costume.
And if your dog isn’t a fan of clothing restricting them, the below costumes will be perfect. Why spend money on an outfit that they could crawl out of and may or may not be torn to shreds? DIYing these dog Halloween costumes are a win-win, especially for your furry best friend.
Beanie Babies Are Back, Baby
Many of us remember the craze of beanie babies in the early 2000s, and if your pup already nails the stuffed animal look, this costume will be absolutely perfect for them. Especially if they’re not a fan of wearing weighty fabrics, this really simple, but super cute costume can just attach to their collar.
The supplies you’ll need are:
- TY logo print out
- white felt fabric
- red felt fabric
- ribbon
- hot glue gun
- fabric scissors
We meant it when we said simple! Check out Brit and Co. for the full tutorial.
An Order of Pup-kin Spice
This is another simple DIY costume for your pup that only requires a few supplies, and you can even do a bit of reuse and recycling with this quick and crafty Halloween costume for your cute little pup-kin.
Supplies:
- cardboard
- soft rope or string (even yarn could be a great option)
- Starbucks logo printed out
- tape or glue
- Starbucks lid
The number of supplies you need will depend on the size of your dog. A smaller dog will need less cardboard of course, but for a bigger pupper it might be a bit more difficult to know how much cardboard you’ll need. But if you are having something delivered soon, just save the box for this project! The cardboard will be closed using the rope, string, or yarn that’s soft enough and safe for your dog.
Another easy way to reuse supplies you already have, instead of throwing out your finished starbucks cup, gently wash the lid and reuse it for this DIY!

And if you don’t have time to make this adorable costume, it’s not too latte to purchase this cute and coffee-themed costume.
Fly Away With These Bat Wings
One of the most classic halloween costumes are bat wings. Simple, but a tad spooky. Cute and maybe a little kooky. If you weren’t planning on heading out on Halloween, but a last minute party is now on your calendar, these bat wings are so easy to make.
You’ll need:
- a pencil
- black poster board OR cardboard and black chalk paint
- ribbon
- metallic silver sharpie
This project is simple and really versatile if you’re creative with limited supplies. Martha Stewart has a fancier version of these bat wings if time is on your side and you can run to the store for additional supplies like the black felt fabric.
You can freestyle draw a light outline of bat wings with your pencil across the black poster board, or the cardboard you’ll use. If you have time to let your supplies dry, you could use black chalk paint or acrylic paint to cover the cardboard like this tutorial. Otherwise the black poster board will do the trick. With a silver sharpie, you can draw metallic lines to make the wings pop and look veiny.
Then by cutting small holes in the center of the wings, you can pull the ribbon through, tie it around your dog and voila! Your dog will be flying away before you know it.
Whether it’s with these easy bat wings or any of the DIY costumes on this list, we hope you’ll give them a try and leave friends and other pups impressed.
